KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Assailants attacked three Malaysian churches with firebombs Friday, extensively damaging one amid a growing conflict over the use of the word “Allah” by non-Muslims, officials said. 

The attacks sharply escalated tensions in the Muslim-majority country ahead of planned protests by Muslims later Friday against a Kuala Lumpur High Court verdict which struck down a 3-year-old ban on non-Muslims using “Allah” in their literature. 

“I condemn these actions because they will destroy our country’s harmony,” Prime Minister Najib Razak told reporters. “The government will take whatever steps it can to prevent such acts.” 

Najib said he has told the national police chief to step up security at churches and other places of worship.

MUAR: The body of Chiew Fong Neo was cremated at the Batu 13 Muar-Tangkak crematorium yesterday.
The 43-year-old mother of three was the saviour of four people who received her lungs, kidneys and liver following a hit-and-run accident on Sunday which claimed her life on Tuesday.

Chiew’s livers were transplanted into a 43-year-old woman identified as Sarojini, a victim of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis who underwent a 10-hour double lung transplant at the National Heart Institute.

Chiew’s kidneys were given to a 51-year-old man from Batu Pahat and an unidentified patient who both went through five-hour transplants at the Selayang and Kuala Lumpur hospitals respectively.

Another recipient was a 9-year-old girl who underwent a liver transplant at the Selayang Hospital.

It is learnt that Chiew’s heart valves and cornea, which were also donated, will be used for surgeries within the next few days.

Chiew, an electronics factory worker in Singapore, died at the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar two days after her motorcycle was rammed from behind by a car in front of a 24-hour convenience store in Tangkak at 4pm.

She was rushed to Tangkak Hospital and later transfered to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital, where she died of severe head injuries on Wednesday.

Chiew’s husband, Len Liang Peng, 44, a fruit hawker in Singapore, and her elder sister, Fong Kiaw, said the family did what Chiew wanted, that is to donate her organs to give life to others.

They said Chiew liked to help others in need and was involved in many community and social works.

“We want to fulfil her wish of donating her organs to those in need. We pray for her soul to rest in peace,” Len said.

“We also hope the police could quickly arrest the person who caused her death.”

Chiew had returned to her home in Taman Wawasan Two, Tangkak Jaya about a month ago to arrange for the schooling of her three daughters, Len Wei Mean, 13, Wei Yee, 10, and Wei Ing, 5.

Len’s mother, Yap Geok Moi, 67, said she would take care of the children.

KUALA LUMPUR: After a lapse of two years, the National Heart Institute (IJN) performed a lung transplant on a patient last night.

The family of Chiew Fong Neo (pic), 43, from Tangkak, agreed to donate a pair of kidneys, cornea, liver, lungs and heart valves after the hit-and-run accident victim was declared brain dead.

Their generosity enabled IJN to perform its first lung transplant since 2007 when the country’s first heart and lung transplant patient Siti Salmah Jasni was operated on. Siti Salmah died on Nov 28 the same year.

According to Chiew’s sister Fong Kiao, 54, the victim, who was working in Singapore, was hit by a car at Taman Tangkak Jaya on Sunday.

She said her sister had previously made known to her family her wish to donate her organs.
 
IJN heart and lung services clinical director Dr Mohamed Ezani Mohd Taib left the institute at 11am for Muar before flying back with the lungs.

The helicopter touched down at the KL hospital football field at 6.10pm.

The operation for the lungs began right after that and lasted for about eight hours.

Chew’s kidneys and liver were transported in an ambulance for transplant procedures in other hospitals.

This is the first time the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar has harvested organs from an accident victim.

Its director Dr Ahmad Pauzi Abu said it was a team effort by several parties, including IJN, the hospital, the Armed Forces and police. He thanked the victim and her family for their noble act.

Model photography – meet Yovi, Pohling, Crystal, and Agnes

Few weeks ago, I was lucky to be able to go for an outing with photonians together with four models, Yovi, Pohling, Crystal, and Agnes.

We went to a rubber estate in Krubong, where it took us about 30 minutes drive from the central town of Melaka. The road was tough but we managed to reach there by 3 MPVs. Every photographers had a chance to shoot with each of the models and we spent 3-4 hours over there shooting until the sunset. Everyone was exhausted.

I have to thank all the moderators from photonian.com to organise this great shooting event for the enthusiasts  and also the four sweet models who gave us full cooperation.
