Courage - Survives 5 Weeks Chained Without Food or Water

NEWPORT BEACH — A three-year-old German Shepherd that was chained to a post and starved for at least five weeks is making a slow recovery at an Orange County emergency veterinary clinic.

The dog, named “Courage” by German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County (GSROC) volunteers, ate dirt to survive without food or water.

Courage weighed only 37 pounds when he was carried into the emergency clinic. A healthy adult male German Shepherd should weigh 75-85 pounds.

He is unable to walk or hold his head up because he has no muscle, according to veterinarians.
