Congratulation to Sum-Ying and Thai-Boon!

I was busy recently and didn’t keep up the pace with wedding shooting update. Happy Labor Day to all.

Right, Thai-Boon and I were classmate during secondary school. We didn’t keep in touch after we went for tertiary study. Until last year I started using FaceBook, we contacted again.

We then met up in March, together with his lovely partner Sum Ying, and I was invited to shoot on their big day. It was a great honour to witness and photograph a good friend wedding.

On their wedding day, Brendon and I worked together to capture the wonderful and genuine moments of the sweet bride, groom and their family and friends. When the Thai-Boon and brothers went to pick the bride, they had to go through a few door games ‘designed’ by the sisters. It turned out to be hilarious later especially during the game with Wasabi, where one had to eat the Wasabi spread on a part of another person’s body.

After the wedding ceremony, we went to Heeren Street for a short outdoor shooting session with the couple before everyone headed back to rest and ready for the evening reception held at Restaurant Lu Yeh Yen. Everything was gorgeous and fantastic on that day and I got to meet many old friends during the reception.

A beautiful wedding full of laughters. Happy wedding to you Thai-Boon and Sum-Ying, and thanks for inviting Brendon and I to be part of your wedding.

Visit to the house of Jeff’s aunt in Heeren Street

After our job assignment in Melaka Raya last Saturday, my friend, Jeff and i went to visit his aunt’s place in Heeren Street, the old street in the heart of the old city of Melaka. The house is one of the historic buildings and is also the place where Jeff was born at. The settings of the house definitely brought back the nostalgic atmosphere just like my grandma’s house in Bunga Raya.

Jeff’s mom, uncle and auntie were at the house when we arrived. They first introduced the place to me and brought me to tour from the front to the back of the house. Like most of the heritage buildings in this area, front half of the lower floor was used for business, while the rest and upper floor were living spaces. The back part of this house is very much abandoned, such as the old stoves, well drinking and toilet; these however leaving us a trace of the early and mid 20th century.

I would like to thank Jeff for bringing me to the his aunt’ place. I had my camera with me so i took some photos during our visit.

Wesak Day 2010 parade in Melaka

Wesak Day is considered to be very important for Buddhists around the world. On Wesak Day, Buddhists all over the world celebrate events of significance to Buddhists of all traditions: The birth, enlightenment and the passing away of Gautama Buddha. Celebrations and grand processions are also held here in most parts of Malaysia.

After our class at Seng Cheong Society of Heeren Street last Thursday we heard lots of voice from outside the building. It was Wesak Day on the next day so people were gathered and line the street to witness the grand procession of Wesak. Dylan and I knew that it was too late to leave the place as the street was already closed temporarily for the procession. Feeling excited and thrilled however, we took out our camera and joined in the crowds.

It wasn’t long waited when the Wesak parade arrived on Heeren Street where we were. The parade was spledid and grand as there were 15 colourful floats and a total of more than 40 Buddhist associations, schools, societies and clubs taking part. Each of these floats was nicely decoratingwith flowers and lights into patterns, and Buddhas were placed on the floats. The participants really put in a lot of effort in designing the floats.

Thousands of people witnessed the grand parade and showed respect to the Buddha. Hundreds of Buddhist devotees also walked the route with candles or flowers in their hands while various groups were chanting along the way or singing Buddhist songs. There were also reverends on the floats sprinkling blessing water to the crowds in the hope that people live a peaceful and happy life. In addition, marching bands from various schools in Melaka, lion and dragon dancers, Sri Lankan dancers were doing performances during the march which cheered up the public.

The whole parade was cheerful and lively yet the atmosphere was calm and peaceful. Routing through 5.5km of Melaka town’s busiest streets, Heeren Street was probably the last street the parade travelled before reaching the finishing line at the Seck Kia Eenh temple. We were lucky to be at Heeren Street and witness this grand event. Wishing everyone a happy belated Wesak Day and may all beings be happy.
